Why aren't all sub-species listed?

Created by Jason Loomis, Modified on Thu, 7 May, 2020 at 7:22 PM by e-butterfly agent

eButterfly uses only a few sub-species in our checklist system. These tend to be species that have substantial wing pattern variation between sub-species such as the Red Spotted Purple and the White Admiral. Because the taxonomy of sub-specie is often dynamic, we are currently focusing our information management at the species level.

However, if eButterfly becomes rich and famous, we can spend more time on sub-species and really give it the energy and time it deserves. In the meantime, please add the sub-species information in the comments section (the same place you add a photo) when entering or editing your checklist.
